This course is focused on understanding of the Luder Yawl systems and is required for entry into the D Skipper training syllabus. The course will give you an understanding of the information you need to know about the Luder Yawl systems, in order to crew and skipper the Club’s Luders Yawls. There are no pre-requisites and it is free to NPSC members. Objectives are to: Provide the Yawl Systems Knowledge you need to become a competent yawl crew member, including: preparing the boats to sail; operating the Yawl systems underway; and Safely Securing/Docking the boats after. Provide basic familiarity of the NPSC Yawl systems, their operation (engine, electrical, fuel, water, head, safety, etc.) and operating limitations. It is not about operating the sails, the standing or running rigging or the boats electronics. It encompasses ASA-104 level boat systems as pertinent to our Yawls. We will show you where to find and how to use Boat System references, manuals, logs and checklists and provide a basic understanding of yawl maintenance requirements. We will address some basic emergency maintenance actions that may be necessary underway to keep the boats functional. We will be spending time on the boats during the Saturday session. You will need to bring a flashlight, and wear clothes you can get down and dirty in. It is recommended you bring a sandwich or something to eat and drink to each of the sessions There will be a written examination at the end of the course that is a component of the D- Skipper Qualification requirements.
