We are entering one boat in the race, which will be skippered by Matt Hammond. The race boat will leave Annapolis approximately 1200 (subject to revision) on Friday, August 3rd. The RACE starts 1500 out on the edge of the Chesapeake Bay. It runs through the night, finishing at St. Mary’s City anywhere from 0600 to noon Saturday, depending on wind conditions (and how well the crew sails!)
Further information about the event is available here: Gov Cup Official Site
Sailing Instructions are here: Sailing Instructions [We are the "Annapolis" race, pages 1-3 of the sailing instructions.]
Registration is open to everyone, but be aware that this is “not a pleasure cruise.” This is a round the clock, all weather endurance race for approximately 24 hours. All crew will be expected to help keep the boat at optimum performance despite potentially uncomfortable conditions (rain), including split watch/rest periods at various times throughout the night. (Safety, of course, will still be our top priority.) If you have not raced before or not sailed at night, you may want to discuss your intentions with the skipper or other experienced racers before signing up.
Initial registration for the RACE will be limited to club members only, but will be opened up to guests in a few days if space is available.
Participants are responsible for their own ground transportation, but carpooling and coordinating with others who are sailing different legs has worked quite well in prior years.
This event is completely FREE for the skipper and crew, including guests. (The Club will pay all expenses, including the MWR the boat rental fee.)
To sign up go to the Club Express Event Calendar on the appropriate day, August 1 through August 4.
